Creative Writing Online Workshops

'A brilliant environment for learning and sharing’

I have been running regular Bath and Bristol based writing workshops for many years. Since the pandemic, I mainly run workshops online. This enables participants to join from anywhere in the world, from the comfort of their own writing space. The group meets on Zoom,  on a Saturday morning.

For all scheduled online workshops see below.

All workshops are run by me, Clare Reddaway, founder of A Word In Your Ear. I am an experienced facilitator,  award-winning short story writer and playwright. You can read more about my work here and read testimonials from my workshop participants here

All workshops run from 10.00-12.30 on Saturday mornings.

The workshops cost £12 for each session.

You are welcome to book individual workshops via Eventbrite (see links below).

If you’d like to block book the three scheduled zoom workshops from April-June for £36 you can escape the Eventbrite fee by booking direct with me. Please get in touch for bank details.

12th September 2026: Build a Character

What do we love best about a story? Often, it’s the characters. They are what we remember, from Sherlock Holmes to Elizabeth Bennet, from Miss Jean Brodie to Atticus Finch, from William Brown to Eeyore. In this workshop we’ll spend our time creating characters that readers will care about, and will linger in their memories

21st November 2026: Story Structure

Now you’ve got your shiny new characters, you need to give them a story. What are the key elements of structure and shape that will keep your readers turning the pages? What will make them sit on the edge of their seats as they read and give at sigh of pleasure and satisfaction when they get to the end? It’s not a science, but there are some helpful tips that will help you on your way.

12th December 2026: Looking At Story

One of the best ways to work out how to write stories is to read them. This workshop is the latest in a regular series where we take one contemporary short story, read it closely and analyse it. We will find inspiration by examining the techniques, the themes and the form the writer has used. Participants will then write their own work inspired by the story we have read together – the majority of the workshop time will be spent on your writing and feedback.

25th October 2026: In Person Day Retreat

There is no online workshop in October because - I'm running an in-person Day Retreat!

This is a day when writers can join together at a tranquil manor house in the Cotswolds to dedicate time to their writing, to carve out some time for themselves. The  cost is £80 which includes lunch and tea, writing workshops and peer feedback. We will be a small group – do get in touch if you are interested in coming along. This event is not yet on Eventbrite, so please book directly with me. For more information have a look here.
