Join story-walker and writer Clare Reddaway as she tells stories, real and imagined. During this walk, she will peel back the facade of Bath’s genteel respectability, uncovering hidden infringements that Bath would really rather forget. Clare brings the seamy side of Bath vividly to life.
Walk, listen, discover, enjoy!
From duels at dawn to gentlemen highwaymen; from quacks and card sharps to conmen and murderers, Bath has seen more than its fair share of lawless activity over the years. There have been moonlight raids on male gatherings; a black GI facing capital punishment; the light-fingered aunt of a lady novelist, to say nothing of opium eaters and indebted Emperors.
Clare regularly leads popular story-walks in Bristol for the Clifton LitFest, the West of England Irish Culture Festival and the Avon Gorge and Downs Wildlife Project. Her entertaining mixture of history and stories captures walkers’ imaginations: ‘Innovative’ and ‘An absolute joy!' said participants. 'A magical way of storytelling,’ ‘We were entranced’.
This will be a suspenseful walk exploring the murky shadows of criminal Bath.
Walk on the dark side if you dare!
