Musicians

One of the most distinctive, delightful and much appreciated elements of Story Fridays are the live musicians who entertain us in between the stories.  Some of them perform their songs on stage too.  We’d like to thank them all very much for their creativity and their work.  They are:

Gill Simmons

Gill Simmons runs the Brave Bold Drama company.  She plays an eclectic mix of jazz and folk on keyboards and ukulele and writes her own music.

Tracey and Jason

Tracey Kelly’s ethereal vocals join with Jason Sidwell’s tasty electric and acoustic guitars to create a set blending originals with fresh arrangements of the best jazz, film and pop tunes.  Together they cook up a sumptuous, unique vibe.  Tracey & Jason’s debut single ‘You Only Live Twice’ has had nationwide airplay from DJs as diverse as Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2 – ‘Absolutely wonderful’ – and Desmond Carrington – ‘If you love Bond, this will give you a twinge of pleasure’.  They will shortly be launching the Diamonds EP, while gigging at venues and events in Bath and across the UK.  Find out more here.

Murray Waters Duo

The Murray Waters Duo are Caroline Murray (vocals) and Darren Waters (guitar and piano). Individually, they have performed extensively in the Bath area, across the UK and overseas; eventually finding each other in September 2013 to form the Murray Waters Duo. “Caroline’s singing was rich and evocative, their playlist was perfect, and they created a mellow, chilled atmosphere with their music that the audience loved” BLUE – Story Fridays, January 2014.  Read more about the Murray Waters Duo here.

Jennifer Crook

Bath-based songwriter and musician Jennifer Crook performs all over the UK. The vivid storytelling, beautiful imagery and infectious melodies on her most recent CD Merry Go Round earned her excellent reviews, national airplay and a live session with Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2. She has worked with many bands – including a major tour with Snow Patrol – and taught at the Bath Songwriting Festival and the London Song Company. ‘I see depth in Jennifer’s songwriting. I see hope and experience – very strong in both’ – Darrell Scott. ‘Utterly beguiling’ Properganda. Visit Jennifer’s website here and read her blog here.

Gabi Maas and Jamie Huddlestone

Gabi and Jamie have played at lots of Story Fridays now, and their combination of violin and melodeon makes people want to smile and dance. If you want to listen too, they made some recordings and you can hear them here.

The Reduced Great Western Revellers

John Breese and Tall Paul entertained us on their banjo and guitar for a few highly enjoyable Story Fridays. You can read more about them and their band here.  John Breese and Charlotte Carrivick played for us for In Focus, May 2014.

Ann Ballinger and Rupert Small

Ann played the flute and Rupert played the fiddle for The Sea The Sea.

Angus Hackett

Gus played his bluesy guitar music for The Fall.

Jilted Caper
